The Minnesota Ironman Bike Ride is coming to Lakeville!

The Minnesota Ironman bike ride is set for its 42nd annual event and the 10th straight year in Lakeville on April 27, 2008. For those of you not familiar with the Ironman, it’s a bicycle riding event for people of all ages and abilities. It’s not a race – it’s an individual or small group challenge to complete a ride of 30, 62 or 100 miles. It starts and ends in Lakeville, so you’ll see a lot of Lakeville real estate on your ride! It also winds through the Dakota County communities of Farmington and Burnsville as well as several Scott County towns.

I was there for the first Lakeville event while working as a police officer and was amazed at the number of people who participated – there are over 5,000 each year! It was refreshing to see the camaraderie between riders of all ages as they completed the course. Over the years the weather has varied greatly, but people have always come ready to ride and to have a good time.

The Minnesota Ironman is coordinated by Hostelling International, which is assisted by various sponsors, including the Twin Cities Bicycling Club, the City of Lakeville, and many others.
